Irvin J. Johnson is a native of Augusta and a 20 year resident of DeKalb County. Irvin has enjoyed a career spanning more than 15 years in the Tax Commissioner's office. Irvin's career with the Tax Commissioner's office began in July 2000 as a Network Coordinator and then progressed into management as supervisor of motor vehicle registrations and titling. Irvin's development continued as he was promoted to manager of Delinquent collections and appointed as Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner during his tenure. Irvin led the Brookhaven office as Branch Manager immediately prior to succeeding the retiring Tax Commissioner, Claudia G. Lawson in DeKalb County.
Irvin has a B.A. degree in Political Science and M.A. in Education from Slippery Rock University. Slippery Rock is located in a rural part of the state,north of Pittsburgh. Irvin's diverse professional background and career began with the Urban League of Shenago Valley, Pennsylvania while completing graduate school and continued with Westinghouse in Greenville, PA. as a Manufacturing supervisor, with Michelin Tire corporation as Training supervisor in Greenville, S.C. and Square D Company in Monroe, NC as Manufacturing Supervisor, Human Resources and Quality Manager.
With her announced retirement Mrs. Lawson enthusiastically endorsed Irvin as the most qualified and competent person to succeed her. Her decision is supported by Irvin's performance and qualifications developed through his years of on the job experience and training. Irvin has been equipped to lead this office by his exposure to the daily operations within the multiple departments and his completion of required training provided the Department of Revenue, the Carl Vinson School of Government and his previous corporate background.
